A Rotary Global Grant supplied monitors, CPAP/BPAP machines and ECG equipment to Government Tiruvannamalai Medical College Hospital, serving a district of 2.46 million people.

As India's second COVID-19 wave took hold in 2021, Tamil Nadu's case count passed 1.7 million and kept climbing. Tiruvannamalai Government Medical College Hospital — the sole hospital treating COVID-19 patients across a revenue district of 2.46 million people — found its stock of life-saving equipment again unable to keep pace. Hospital authorities approached every Rotary club in Tiruvannamalai directly for support.

A club steps up

The Rotary Club of Tiruvannamalai Vegan (District 3231) led Global Grant GG2127775 in consultation with Tamil Nadu's Health Department. The Rotary Club of Glenhaven (District 9685) served as international sponsor.

What the grant delivered

Backed by US$54,000 in funding, the project supplied Government Tiruvannamalai Medical College Hospital with:

  • 20 multi-parameter monitors
  • 12 CPAP/BPAP machines
  • A 12-channel ECG machine

Equipment identified by the hospital that treats the patients

The request behind this grant came directly from the hospital: equipment identified by its own doctors and medical staff as what they needed most to treat the district's COVID-19 patients through the second wave, delivered through a club-led project managed in step with Tamil Nadu's Health Department.
